Books We’re Reading – ‘Adrenal Fatigue’

Adrenal Fatigue book

Here’s another installment of our “Books We’re Reading” segment.  Periodically I’ll be posting about the best books I’ve read or am reading on various nutritional topics.  Since so many people come to us asking about adrenal fatigue, this week I’ll be discussing the book ‘Adrenal Fatigue – The 21st Century Stress Syndrome’ written by Dr. James Wilson.

This book is without question the most informative book I’ve read on adrenal fatigue.  This syndrome is one of the most frequently undiagnosed ailments affecting individuals.  In his book, Dr. Wilson does a terrific job explaining what adrenal fatigue is, and what you can do to heal your adrenals and have more energy.

As Dr. Wilson says on his website  “Adrenal fatigue is a collection of signs and symptoms, known as a syndrome, that results when the adrenal glands function below the necessary level. Most commonly associated with intense or prolonged stress, it can also arise during or after acute or chronic infections, especially respiratory infections such as influenza, bronchitis or pneumonia. As the name suggests, its paramount symptom is fatigue that is not relieved by sleep but it is not a readily identifiable entity like measles or a growth on the end of your finger. You may look and act relatively normal with adrenal fatigue and may not have any obvious signs of physical illness, yet you live with a general sense of unwellness, tiredness or “gray” feelings. People experiencing adrenal fatigue often have to use coffee, colas and other stimulants to get going in the morning and to prop themselves up during the day.”

If this sounds like you, then I encourage you to check out his book.  If you think you may be experiencing adrenal fatigue, give us a call.  We can work with you and your practitioner to do some testing of your adrenal hormones – in particular cortisol – to determine the health of your adrenal glands.  We can also recommend specific vitamins and herbs for optimal adrenal health.  Remember, adrenal fatigue is a syndrome that develops over time and it will take time to heal your adrenals.  It’s very important to work with a health care practitioner knowledgable about adrenal fatigue to guide you in the use of the proper nutritional supplements.

Good luck in your journey to better health and let us know if we can help!

Be Well.
