We’ve completed the third week of our 28-DayMetabolic Detox and we’re feeling great!
We’re now entering the final week and our food choices have increased back to the recommended foods from the first week of the detox. During this phase we’re reintroducing foods that could cause potential sensitivities and tracking our symptoms to see how our bodies react. So far, neither Dianna nor I have had any adverse symptoms, but if we did, it would be an indication that we might want to minimize or avoid those foods in the future.
One of the benefits of doing this type of detox is that you give your body a chance to reset itself internally. In other words, your liver is given a chance to rid your body of toxins as you minimize the amount of potential food toxins you’re putting in. I often tell patients to think of a funnel. If you pour too much into the funnel it starts to back up and can overflow. The way to get the funnel working properly is to lessen the amount going in to give the funnel time to clear out what’s built up inside.
Your body, and in particular your liver, can get “backed up” with toxins, and periodically it’s a good idea to give it some time to get caught up in it’s detoxifying process.
Both Dianna and I have lost about 5 -7 pounds over the past three weeks. This detox is not a weight loss program, but changing the way you eat and paying closer attention to eating healthy foods typically results in a small amount of weight loss. We’ll both be transitioning over to our 12-Week Healthy Transformation Program after completing the detox. That program does have a weight loss component to it, and is overseen by one of our staff nutritionists…more on that in a later post.
As we begin the final stretch of our detox journey, we both can say that while there have been some challenges, overall the program is easy to follow and there are so many real, healthy food choices that it hasn’t been as difficult as I initially thought it would be.
It’s been said that it takes about 21 days to start a new habit and have it begin to feel like a normal routine. That has definitely been the case for us. Our routine has evolved to the point where we have to give very little thought to what we’re going to eat each day (provided we’ve planned ahead and done our shopping for the week.) The new habits we’ve formed are much healthier and knowing that we’re taking care of our bodies and making healthy choices is a great feeling.
